The Great Migration Safari

Seven days in northern Tanzania that combine the spectacle of the wildebeest migration with a full day in the Ngorongoro Crater. Your Serengeti camp moves with the herds, so you stay close to the action whatever the month.

Day by day

1. Day 1

   Karibu Tanzania

   Arusha

   Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro Airport and drives you to a lodge outside Arusha to rest after the flight.

2. Day 2

   Up to the Ngorongoro highlands

   Ngorongoro Crater · Crater Rim Camp

   Drive through Maasai country and up the Rift Valley wall to camp on the crater rim. Afternoon walk in the highlands with a Maasai guide.

3. Day 3

   The crater floor

   Ngorongoro Crater

   Descend at first light for a full day in the crater, looking for black rhino, lion and flamingo, with a picnic by the hippo pool.

4. Days 4–6

   Following the herds

   Serengeti · Serengeti Migration Camp

   Fly or drive into the Serengeti to a camp placed near the migration: the southern plains for calving season (December to March) or the Mara River for crossings (July to October). Optional sunrise balloon safari.

5. Day 7

   Kwaheri

   A last morning game drive, then fly back to Arusha for a day room and your evening flight home.
