Serengeti
Endless plains and the Great Migration
The Serengeti is the Africa of every childhood dream: golden grass to the horizon, lions on granite kopjes, and nearly two million wildebeest and zebra moving in a great circle with the rains.
Highlights
- Wildebeest calving season on the southern plains (December to March)
- Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti (July to October)
- Lion, leopard and cheetah all year in the Seronera valley
- Hot air balloon safari at sunrise
Where you stay in the Serengeti matters more than anywhere else in Tanzania, because the herds keep moving. From December to March they calve on the short-grass plains of the south around Ndutu. From April to June they drift through the central and western Serengeti. From July to October they reach the Mara River in the far north, where the famous river crossings happen.
The central Seronera valley has water all year and some of the best resident predator viewing in Africa, so even outside migration season the Serengeti never disappoints. We match your camp to the month you travel, so you wake up close to the action.
